Orosei combines 20 kilometres of coastline with sandy beaches, cliffs and green spaces of high natural value. It also has a historic centre with small buildings made of stone and white lime, courtyards, numerous churches, arches and small leafy squares. This raises an appealing question when choosing your holiday apartment in Orosei: should the trip focus primarily on coastal landscapes and water sports, on history and architecture, or on traditional celebrations?

A special place within the historic fabric is the Guiso-Satta Garden. This courtyard garden is located in the Palatzos Vetzos, also known as Palatthos Vezzos, district. Plants grown to supply the family, including citrus trees, herbs and quinces, stand alongside ornamental flowering plants such as hydrangeas, roses, wisteria, jasmine and oleander. The garden is considered a rare, well-preserved example of a 19th-century aristocratic garden.

The Palathos Vezzos district forms the heart of Orosei's historic centre. Traditional houses and elegant palaces from the 16th and 17th centuries are grouped around the former seat of the medieval Curia Regni. The Church of San Giacomo Maggiore adds another architectural accent with its façade arranged along the side wall and its vaulted presbytery chapels positioned around the dome.

Nuraghe Osalla, also known as Nuraghe Osala or Nuraghe Gulunie, stands on a small promontory above Osalla Bay and Beach. The Don Giovanni Guiso Museum is located in Orosei and complements the town's cultural offerings.

Traditions by the water and throughout the year

Religious customs shape certain times of the year. During Lent, the Sas Rughes ceremony takes place in Orosei every Friday. The Misteros procession on Holy Monday begins at the Oratory of the Santa Croce Brotherhood; it was restored in the early 2000s. On the last Sunday in May, the Santa Maria 'e Mare tradition includes a procession of flower-decorated boats on the Cedrino carrying a statue of the Virgin Mary.

The coast also opens up many different possibilities for active days. Founded in Orosei in 2015, the Sea Roots Watersport School offers, among other activities, surfing, electric surfboards, windsurfing, wing foiling, tandem windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, catamaran trips, wakeboarding and kayaking. When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can therefore consider whether water sports should be the focus of your trip or whether culture and coastal discoveries should receive equal attention.

Orosei AdvenTours offers trekking and excursions around Orosei and throughout Sardinia, including day trips and multi-day tours, 4×4 tours, aquatrekking and kayaking experiences. Experiences in Orosei also include a guided combined excursion in the Gulf of Orosei departing from Marina, city-bike rental and snorkelling in the Gulf of Orosei. This makes it possible to accommodate different interests when planning a trip without reducing Orosei to a single type of holiday.

Orosei provides an unusually diverse foundation for this: a courtyard garden and historic palaces stand alongside the beach, the Cedrino and the gulf, while museums, processions and water sports offer different rhythms for the trip.
