The same museum also houses, on the ground floor, an oxhide-shaped copper ingot from Serra Ilixi in Nuragus, dating from the Late Bronze Age.

Churches and an evolving townscape

From the Middle Ages until the 19th century, the Sant'Elia sanctuary was of great religious importance not only for Nuragus but for the entire surrounding area. The parish church of Santa Maria Maddalena displays late Gothic Aragonese architectural features; its construction is dated to around the 16th century. The ruins of the medieval church of Santa Maria di Valenza reveal the single-nave layout and the line of the apse.

The rural church of Sant'Elia is divided into three naves, accessed through three portals aligned in the façade. Several houses in Nuragus preserve round-arched portals behind which courtyards with old cobblestones open up. Together, religious buildings, ruins and homes tell of different forms of construction, without the character of the town being limited to a single monument.

Festivals and local cuisine
