A holiday apartment in Chia is a practical base if you would like to combine the coast, historic sites and walking trails in one trip. Between beach landscapes, a lagoon and the traces of Bithia, different ideas for day trips emerge: you can explore a place with a long history, walk to a tower, choose a beach trail or observe animals by the water. When choosing your location, therefore, it is less about a uniform holiday image and more about which of these impressions you want to shape your stay.

Bithia and the Tower of Chia

Bithia was inhabited from the 8th–7th century BC until the 6th century AD. The settlement was a flourishing port center, initially Phoenician, then Punic and finally Roman. At Bithia, the outlines of the city wall and individual houses are visible. The Tower of Chia was built from 1578 onward to defend the mouth of the Rio Chia. Since August 1, 2026, the Tower of Chia has been open to the public every day. It can be reached via an easy walk of about ten minutes.

Beaches and trails on the promontory

Cala del Morto can be reached via a short footpath from the car park at the adjacent Porto Campana. Sa Colonia can be reached on foot via a trail that crosses the promontory, crowned by a tower and covered with Mediterranean scrub; at its foot lie the ruins of the 8th-century BC Phoenician city of Bithia. Sa Colonia is a large beach with soft, white-amber-colored sand, crystal-clear emerald-green water and a seabed that slopes gently toward the open sea. The two destinations therefore represent different ways of experiencing the coastal area: one via a short access route from a car park, the other via a trail connected to the landscape and its history.

Spartivento Lagoon

Behind Su Giudeu Beach lies the Spartivento Lagoon. There, you can observe and photograph pink flamingos, herons and coots. The lagoon expands the range of travel ideas with a specific wildlife-watching experience, allowing you to capture birds in addition to the landscape. This is suitable as a dedicated focus for a day for anyone who would like to combine time at the beach with nature photography.

Guidance for choosing your holiday apartment

You can reach Su Portu via scenic road 195 by following the signs to Torre di Chia. In the area around Su Portu, there are car parks, places to buy refreshments, a campsite and beach-equipment rental. When choosing your holiday apartment in Chia, you can therefore make your preferred daily rhythm the focus: historical discoveries, time at the beach, short walks or wildlife observation.
