Cellio reveals its character especially where art, village history and trails come together. The Chiesa di San Lorenzo houses a canvas painted by Tanzio da Varallo in 1628. It depicts Saint Charles carrying the Holy Nail in a procession. Next to the church stands a bell tower considered the tallest in Valsesia, rising 56 metres high.

The hamlets in the Cellio area also offer tangible points of connection for a cultural trip. They preserve typical Valsesia houses, as well as old equipment for threshing oats and wheat and old presses. The small Museo civico is dedicated to the history and past of Cellio. Sculturando is a sculpture event held in Cellio every August for many years, where sculptors work from raw material through to the finished piece. The Oratorio di San Jacu Pitu in Bosco, Cellio, is generally dated to the 15th century.

This village setting also has its own culinary accent: Birrificio Valle Cellio develops distinctive beer recipes, including beer made with chestnuts, thyme and rice. This is an interesting addition for travellers looking for special flavour ideas alongside landscapes and history.

Trails, peaks and landscapes

Different types of routes are available for active days. The Sentiero Valduggia–Cellio combines sections on a mule track with sections on roads and passes through several interesting hamlets. The Varallo–Civiasco–Breia–Cellio–Valduggia mountain bike route passes through Cellio.

In the Cellio con Breia area, a more challenging walk leads to Monte Briasco at an altitude of 1,185 metres. The walk offers views of Monte Rosa and Lake Orta. This specific route may be important when choosing your holiday apartment in Cellio if you would like to combine active days with a special landscape experience.

The Montefenera Caves and the Grotte di Ara are also located in the surroundings of Cellio; both are caves. Monte Trevigno and Monte Piogera are peaks in the area around Cellio. This provides a choice of different nature destinations without equating caves with peaks.

Museums in the surrounding region

The wider region around Cellio is also home to the Museo “Come Eravamo”, Museo Meina, Arteadarona and the Museo Archeologico.

The combination of art, local history, sculpture, distinctive beer recipes, walking trails and cycling tours gives you concrete points of reference when choosing accommodation. If you are travelling with different interests, you can choose your holiday apartment or holiday home in Cellio according to which themes you want to shape your days: museum visits, activities, landscape experiences or regional specialities. This keeps your planning open and leaves room for both active and cultural holiday days.
