San Genuario can be explored from both a cultural and natural-history perspective. The Benedictine Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo di Lucedio was founded in 707. Later, the abbey bore the names San Genuario and San Bononio. The parish church of San Genuario stands on the site of the former abbey church; the Romanesque bell tower and the rear section of the apse with hanging arches and characteristic river stones and tuff stones have been preserved.

Nature at the Palude di San Genuario

The Palude di San Genuario is a wetland with slow-flowing channels, springs and spring-fed pools that provide a habitat for wetland species and rare bird species. The Palude di San Genuario is home to a wetland studies centre where scientific bird ringing and nature photography take place. The combination of waterscape, birdlife and research adds a natural-history dimension to your stay, without requiring nature and culture to be considered separately.

Trails with different starting points

A 4-km hiking trail leads from San Genuario to the Palude di San Genuario. A cycling route from Crescentino leads to San Genuario and then eastwards along the Strada Costa towards the protected area. The different routes and starting points can be incorporated into your daily planning if you would like to explore the landscape on foot or by bicycle. This allows you to shape the nature aspect of your stay according to the length, direction and preferred mode of transport.

Getting there and choosing a location

San Genuario is located one kilometre from the SP 1, the Strada delle Grange, which connects Crescentino and Vercelli. Crescentino is considered the nearest place with a railway connection; travelling to San Genuario by bicycle and train via Crescentino is described as one option. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in San Genuario, you can take this location and the different routes into account when choosing your starting point for the trip.

Castles, museum and regional destinations
