Mountain lakes, panoramic views and trails through the landscape

Lago della Rossa is the largest lake in the Valli di Lanzo. From the hamlet of Crot in Usseglio, the lake can be reached in about two hours via the Enel road through the Vallone d’Arnas and past Lago Dietro la Torre.

Lago di Malciaussia is also an artificial lake, created by the construction of a dam from the late 1920s to the early 1930s, which flooded the hamlet of Malciaussia. Near its dam, the recently restored Chapel of San Bernardo preserves numerous ex-votos, regarded as testimonies of popular piety.

The Decauville Margone–Malciaussia route follows the former railway line, along which materials were transported to the Malciaussia dam before the road was built. Old rails are still visible in some places. The route offers panoramic views of the mountains between Val di Viù and Val di Susa.

For observing nature, the slopes of Torre d'Ovarda are a special vantage point: the mountain flanks there are home to groups of chamois and ibex.

Churches, museum and cultural trails

La Corna contains the remains of cobalt, iron and copper mines that were exploited until the end of the 19th century.

The Antico Complesso Parrocchiale di Usseglio is a recently restored group of religious and civic buildings. The buildings were constructed between the 11th/12th and 18th centuries around Piazzetta Luigi Cibrario. The old parish church of the Assumption of Mary in this complex serves as a venue for exhibitions, conferences and concerts. The historic ensemble is completed by the new church of Usseglio, a neo-Baroque building inaugurated in 1971.

The Museo Civico Alpino Arnaldo Tazzetti is housed in a building that served as Usseglio’s town hall from 1786 to 1958 and housed the boys’ school on the ground floor. The museum also offers cultural trails presenting the area’s historical, artistic, architectural and natural features.

Regional specialities and annual events

Every July, Usseglio hosts the Mostra della Toma di Lanzo e dei Formaggi d’Alpeggio. The event has held national status since 2020. Toma di Lanzo and alpine cheeses take centre stage. The programme includes food stalls, handicrafts, workshops, tastings, exhibitions and performances.

The San Camillo festival at Lago della Rossa is held on the first Saturday in August.

A fishing licence and permission from the concession holder are required for fishing in Usseglio’s Zona Turistica di Pesca.
