Eremo is shaped by the Eremo dei Camaldolesi and its connections to local trails: the complex was established in 1606 in a park with pine, cypress, and cedar trees, while the Anello Verde approaches the area via Sentiero 12. The history of a distinctive complex and directions along named trails thus sit side by side. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is worth first deciding what you would like to focus on during your stay: are you mainly interested in the architecture of the Eremo, or would you also like to explore the various routes and their destinations?

The Eremo dei Camaldolesi and its design

The original design provided a separate house for each hermit. Each included an interior well, a cell, an oratory, and a very small garden. This combination makes the complex easier to understand as an interplay of individual living and devotional spaces, rather than simply as one building. Those interested in architecture can distinguish between the intended functions of the different spaces: the cell and oratory are just as much part of the design as the well and private little garden. Together, they give a concrete picture of how the complex was originally planned.

The park’s landscaping is also part of the complex’s character. Pine, cypress, and cedar trees form the historic setting of the site. The architecture and vegetation can therefore be considered together: the historical significance lies not only in the date of its establishment, 1606, but also in the described connection between the Eremo and its park. The bell tower of the church of the Eremo dei Camaldolesi can only be seen from the outside. If you plan to include it in your visit, please bear this limitation in mind.

Historical traces in the surrounding area

The area around Eremo reveals other aspects of local history. Cascina Margaria is nearby and was already in existence in the early 18th century. Its description reflects the area’s agricultural and pastoral character, adding a rural theme to the picture of the religious complex. The remains of a medieval fortified site can also be found on Bric San Viter. These examples point to different historical themes: the Eremo complex with its planned retreat, a Cascina, and the remains of a fortification.

A stay focused on history can therefore offer several points of interest without combining them into a single attraction. Cascina Margaria should be understood as a historical site in the area around Eremo; the fortified remains are also outside the precisely defined Eremo complex. Distinguishing between the complex and its surroundings helps keep these local references clear.

Trails and different destinations

Sentiero 12 links the route description of the Anello Verde with Eremo: the Anello Verde approaches the area along this trail. At Strada Eremo, Sentiero 12 also reaches Torre dell’Eremo. The tower is entrusted to Sermig (Arsenale dell’Armonia). The same trail name thus appears both in the description of the Anello Verde and in directions to Torre dell’Eremo.

The route descriptions also mention other destinations. The second section of the Anello Verde runs from Eremo to Tetti Forni. At Strada Eremo, Sentiero 32 heads towards Pecetto. Comparing the destinations is useful for orientation: Tetti Forni is part of the description of the Anello Verde’s second section, Pecetto is the direction given for Sentiero 32, and Torre dell’Eremo is mentioned on Sentiero 12. The descriptions therefore differ in where each section of trail leads.

Choosing Eremo as your base

If you are looking for a holiday apartment for a stay focused on culture and trails, these themes can help guide your choice of location. The history of the Eremo dei Camaldolesi, historical traces in the surrounding area, and the trails mentioned here offer different points of interest. Consider which of them will be the main focus of your trip. This makes it possible to choose Eremo as a destination based on specific interests, without presenting the different places and routes as a single offering.
