Holiday apartment in Sambuco: mountain landscape, trails and Baìa tradition
Rock faces, peaks and trails around Sambuco
When choosing a holiday apartment in Sambuco, orientation begins with the place itself: Sambuco lies at the foot of the spectacular golden-yellow rock face below Monte Bersaio. From Sambuco, a trail leads around Monte Bersaio and then up to its summit. From there, the view gives the impression of being suspended in the air. The summit of Monte Savi is nearby. The surrounding area also includes the summit of Monte Cialancias, the Testa della Costabella del Piz mountain and the summit of Monte Viridio.
Hikes with different profiles
The sixth stage of La Routo begins in the centre of Sambuco and leads to Pontebernardo. It is 9.2 kilometres long, with 560 metres of ascent and 424 metres of descent. The Sentiero delle nove borgate, on the other hand, is a circular trail through Sambuco’s characteristic hamlets. In winter, this trail is often accessible when there is little snow. This provides a clearly measured stage as well as a circular route through the local hamlets as the focus for planning day trips.
Churches, towers and inherited culture
The Torre Campanaria di San Bartolomeo is part of Sambuco’s history. It is the surviving part of the former baptistery church of San Bartolomeo and Sambuco’s first parish church. The tower is five storeys high and topped by a tall pyramidal spire. The Cappella di San Giuliano was consecrated as a parish church in 1502. Its medieval masonry and medieval single-light windows are still preserved.
The Centro di Documentazione Valle Stura was established in Sambuco in the summer of 1988. The Valley Documentation Centre houses a permanent exhibition about the Baìa dal Sambuc. The Baìa tradition has been preserved longest in the Stura Valley in Sambuco and has been documented since 1718. In this way, visible architectural history and a cultural tradition closely associated with Sambuco complement each other.
Regional destinations for culture and nature
The wider regional area also expands the possible holiday focuses. It includes the historic Ponte del Diavolo site, Fort de Tournoux, Mercantour National Park and the Chiesa parrocchiale. Together with the trails and peaks around Sambuco, these provide a choice between local history, mountain landscapes, hikes and regional discoveries.
For days focused on culture, the Torre Campanaria, the Cappella di San Giuliano and the Baìa dal Sambuc take centre stage. The regional destinations add further historical and nature-related themes to the stay.
