Roccabruna combines varied trails, Occitan culture, sacred history and regional traditions. The Sentiero del Chast'lass is a three-hour trail with 529 metres of elevation gain from Borgata Castello, following an old popular pilgrimage route to the Santuario di Valmala. At the same time, the first two stages of the Sentiero di Valle of the Percorsi Occitani run through the Roccabruna area.

The range of trails extends from short excursions to extensive circular routes. From Roccabruna, short excursions on the Strada dei Cannoni are possible; they begin in Borgata Sant’Anna and lead uphill through the forest to the Colle della Ciabra. L’Adrech – I Sentieri del Sole is a 5.5-hour trail with 400 metres of elevation gain starting from Espaci Occitan. La Promenada, on the other hand, is a two-hour trail with 100 metres of elevation gain, also starting from Espaci Occitan. The different durations and elevation gains make it easier to adapt the day’s plans to the desired level of intensity and to different preferences within the travelling group.

There are also notable destinations for sporting interests. The Percorso Ginnico begins at the Centro Sportivo Valle Maira by Roccabruna’s swimming pool complex and includes 16 equipped stations. Lou Viol d'la Rocho Auto is a 7- to 8-hour circular route with 1,000 metres of elevation gain that follows the historic network of paths in the upper municipal area of Roccabruna. Rocca Cubiera is a 1,307-metre-high vertical monolith and serves as a climbing wall. The Chastelàs climbing crags offer more than 70 routes equipped with bolts, pitons and nuts, up to difficulty grade 7C+.

Occitan culture and history in the townscape

Roccabruna has transformed its streets into an open-air museum dedicated to the Occitan regions, troubadours, musicians, martyrs and seers. In the central districts, themed streets and neighbourhoods display bilingual signs in Occitan and Italian. Maria Vergine Assunta is located at an exceptional viewpoint and preserves a 17th-century baptismal font. The church of Sant’Anna is also located at a viewpoint.

In Sant’Anna, the refuge of the 104th Garibaldi Brigade Carlo Fissore houses a permanent photographic exhibition as well as information about the Resistance and the trekking routes associated with it. The Sentieri della Libertà comprise four trails dedicated to the Resistance in the area around this partisan refuge. Near the parish church of Assunta, the Cappella di San Giovanni was extended in the 1920s and 1930s to accommodate the many pilgrims. The religious sites and the paths of remembrance thus give Roccabruna several historical layers.

Roccerè: rock art and visitor information

Monte Roccerè is a significant Bronze Age rock-art site of international interest. The Roccerè archaeological site includes the Masso Altare, which bears the site’s most significant engraving. The preferred access to the Roccerè archaeological site is in Sant’Anna di Roccabruna; the specially designated trail begins there. A visitor centre is planned for the months of June to September. Regional traditions and cuisine

Events and gastronomy are also part of the character of the town. The Filiera del legno and the Fiera di Valle are events held in Roccabruna in September and October. They include the presentation of local products and small craft businesses from the Maira Valley, as well as a traditional chestnut festival. Local inns, restaurants and trattorias in Roccabruna are associated with traditional mushroom-based dishes.
