Discover Ricca: Cherasca, Culture and Patron Saint Festivities

Ricca lies at the foot of a hill on the banks of the Cherasca stream. This location combines a distinct local character with various ways to shape your stay: you can take an interest in culture and local history, use a hiking route as a guide for an active day, or explore the culinary side of the area. Anyone choosing a holiday apartment in Ricca can therefore use their own travel interests as a good starting point for planning.

Landscape, Cherasca and Wine

The Cherasca stream is an integral part of Ricca’s described landscape. Ricca and Valle Talloria are part of the municipality of Diano d’Alba. Its slopes and soils provide suitable conditions for producing high-quality wines. This gives you a travel theme that combines discovering the area with regional culinary culture, without requiring any additional characteristics of individual businesses. The wine landscape remains part of the larger municipal area to which Ricca belongs.

Culture in Ricca and San Rocco Cherasca

In 1931, the Church of San Rocco Cherasca became the new parish church of San Rocco Cherasca. The Ricca, or San Rocco Cherasca, Museum offers another perspective on the village and its surroundings. It documents the history, work and lives of the ordinary people of the Langhe. The “Conservare il Passato” exhibition-museum is located at Piazza della Chiesa 1 in San Rocco Cherasca, in the Centro Culturale Ricreativo Don Mario Destefanis. In 2025, the cultural centre once again hosted the 13th exhibition of student drawings on the theme of travel. Until 2019, this exhibition was held during the Christmas season in conjunction with a nativity scene exhibition.

Patron Saint Festivities with Sport and Culinary Delights

Ricca’s traditional patron saint festivities took place from 28 August to 1 September 2025 and offered residents and visitors opportunities to participate. The programme included a 6 km non-competitive run through the hamlet’s hills and paths. Craft beer from De Lab Fermentazioni, a young company from the hamlet that used raw materials from the region, was also offered on all days of the event. The “Serata a tutta Paella” food event offered an all-you-can-eat option. A Pantalera tournament, involving four teams, was also opened at the municipal sferisterio. These examples show how closely festival culture, sport and regional products came together during the festivities.

Hiking and Pallapugno

A hiking route leads from Ricca’s main square to the municipal sferisterio and then across the Cherasca stream towards Diano d’Alba. This creates a route that links the town centre, sports venue and stream area in sequence. In 2025, a game of the Italian Super Cup in Pallapugno between Albese and Cortemilia was scheduled to take place at the sferisterio in Ricca di Diano d’Alba. Classes were held at the sferisterio in Diano d’Alba during the summer. If you choose your holiday apartment in Ricca according to your interests, you can therefore weigh up cultural visits, regional culinary experiences, festive events and outdoor activities.
