Holiday apartment in Moccagatta – discover vineyards, trails and Barbaresco

Moccagatta combines a wine landscape with trails through the Langhe and its own history of the name. The name refers to a hill in Barbaresco. Those who choose a holiday apartment in Moccagatta can therefore tailor their stay entirely to their own interests: vineyards, wine tastings, cultural history, walks or a bike ride can all form different holiday themes alongside one another.

A wine landscape with its own history of the name

In the official MGA classification in 2007, Muncagota, the dialectal form of the name, received the definitive designation for the same vineyard; it had previously been known as Moccagatta. The Muncagota cru is a south-east-facing vineyard at an altitude of 250 to 300 metres above sea level. Moccagatta has 12 hectares of vineyards within the World Heritage area. The history of the winery also goes back a long way: in 1913, Luigi expanded it on the family estate on Moccagatta Hill. The altitude refers to the Muncagota cru, while the 12 hectares comprise Moccagatta’s entire vineyard holdings.

Wines and visits in Moccagatta

Moccagatta’s vineyards include 7 hectares of Nebbiolo, 2 hectares of Barbera, 1.5 hectares of Dolcetto and 1.5 hectares of Chardonnay. Moccagatta’s Chardonnay Buschet is a Langhe DOC wine and comes from a 0.7-hectare vineyard. Moccagatta’s Barbera d’Alba DOC is part of the „The Green Experience“ initiative and is produced according to regulations based on sustainable cultivation and plant-protection practices. Barbaresco DOCG Bric Balin is produced in a vineyard of just over three hectares directly behind the winery. Moccagatta offers bookable wine tastings and tours for interested visitors.

Trails through vineyards and hill country

The Sentiero del Barbaresco is a circular trail through the vineyards and hills of the Langhe. There are frequent panoramic views along the way, including views of Monviso. The trail descends from the ridge towards the Moccagatta winery. On a route towards Treiso, there is a stop at Moccagatta; the winery takes its name from the hill on which its vines are planted. The Sentiero remains a circular route, while the route towards Treiso has a clear destination. This makes it possible to shape a stay around landscape, activity and wine without every day having to follow the same pattern.

Cycling as a longer alternative

The villages of Barbaresco are considered a hilly landscape for cycling. A route from Neive to Treiso is about 10 kilometres long and can be extended into a tour of up to 41 kilometres. The different route lengths make it easier to plan a range of active days: you can choose a shorter loop or make a more extensive tour the focus.
