For days spent in nature, the “Cammino di Mercatino” provides a clear point of reference: the approximately 10-kilometre walking trail starts in Mercatino and returns there. It is marked with a bull symbol and directional arrows placed on stones and on the backs of road signs. The approximate route length provides a fixed planning measure for breaks and the day's pace; both the start and the return are in Mercatino.

Market history and sculptures in the town

The town's history can be traced back to 24 January 1508: on that day, Guidobaldo I da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino, granted the community of Monte Grimano permission to hold weekly Friday markets in the emerging settlement then known as “Genga del Mercato”. The sculpture “Nascita Vita Morte” stands in Piazza del Campo Fiera; it is also known as “Il Toro”. It is made of raw iron, stands on a round brick plinth and was inaugurated in 2013. “L’uomo e il fiume” was inaugurated in 2019.

Festivals and markets throughout the year

In the Piandicastello district of Mercatino Conca, the Festa della Madonna dell’Acqua takes place every year on 25 April. In the afternoon, a procession carrying the statue of the Madonna proceeds from the Church of San Salvatore to the centre of Piandicastello. Another event is the Fiera e festa di Sant’Ubaldo, held on the second weekend of May. On the second Sunday, market stalls line Via Roma and Via Matteotti from morning until evening; flowers and vegetable plants are offered in Piazza Verdi. Piandicastello, a district of Mercatino Conca, also lies along an approximately 30-kilometre route from Osteria Nuova to Onferno: this route passes through the district by the Church of San Salvatore.
