The CAI hiking route IT 6.07 starts at the car park of the Hotel Pineta in Campodonico, passes the Abbazia di San Biagio in Caprile, an old Benedictine monastery, and reaches viewpoints overlooking the Campodonico valley. The Monastero S. Biagio in Caprile near Campodonico dates back to the 11th century.
Routes with different profiles
The CAI route IT 6.09 also starts at the car park of the Hotel Pineta. It leads through a mixed forest of conifers and deciduous trees to a clearing overlooking the Campodonico valley. The hiking loop is rated difficulty level E, is 10.8 km long and has 580 metres of ascent; it connects Campodonico, Monte Pordinaldo, Casale Val di Mazzi and Trofigno. Casale Val di Mazzi is a small, unstaffed mountain shelter. The 17.5 kilometres of IT 7.04 and the 26.2 kilometres of ILP 5.04 require different day planning from IT 6.09. The ascents also differ: IT 7.04 has 1,020 metres of ascent, while IT 6.09 has 580 metres. The 580-metre ascent adds a separate planning factor to the 10.8 kilometres for a hiking day in Campodonico.
The CAI route IT 6.08 partly follows a stream and leads to the renovated Casolare di Trofigno. The stream and rural building give this route its own distinctive landscape character.
The CAI hiking route IT 7.04 is 17.5 km long, rated difficulty level E and has 1,020 metres of ascent. The long-distance hiking route ILP 5.04 is also rated difficulty level E, is 26.2 km long and leads from Castagna di Spindoli via S. Biagio in Caprile to Fabriano.
Mountain views and distinctive landscapes
Monte Giuoco del Pallone got its name because of its unusual shape, which resembles a football stadium. From there, the view extends towards the Gemmo area, San Vicino, Gola della Rossa, Strega, Catria, Cucco, the mountains around Gualdo Tadino, Pennino, Monte Primo and the Sibillini Mountains. There is a cross at Sasso Barbano, considered a prominent viewpoint over the valley and the surrounding mountains.
