Ispra is a place for days when the lake, local history and activity come together. In summer, the harbour has an active landing stage for ships and hydrofoils operated by Navigazione Lago Maggiore. Churches, historical traces, circular trails and science offer further themes for discovering the town.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Ispra, the desired combination of lake, history and activity can be a useful starting point for your planning. The landing stage, local-history destinations and different ways of walking can be mentally combined into very different kinds of days. This allows you to give different emphasis to a day by the water, a cultural visit or a walking experience.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Martino complex contains two churches: the older one was built in the 17th century and faces the lake, while the new one was built in the 18th century and faces the square with its façade. In the town centre, the garden of Villa Castelli is freely accessible. At Le Fornaci, individual remains have survived in varying states of preservation as evidence of industrial archaeology.

Archaeology and science in Ispra

Extensive and unequivocal traces of permanent settlement by Iron Age population groups attributed to the so-called Golasecca culture were discovered in Ispra. Altars, Serizzo urns and plaques with Latin inscriptions have also been preserved in the town, in the park and at Villa Sagramoso-Brivio.

The Europa Science Experience is a visitor centre of the Joint Research Centre in Ispra. It comprises two main areas: The Cube, a glazed area presenting the history and role of the JRC within the European Commission, as well as an exhibition area featuring virtual encounters with scientists and virtual-reality experiences.

Circular trails, hiking and cycling culture

The Anello delle Fornaci circular trail is ideal for outdoor activity: it starts and ends at the Ispra Info Point. The guided morning hike “Ispra e le sue fornaci” is approximately 5 km long. Both route formats add their own emphasis to the day’s planning, without requiring you to commit to a single experience. Those looking for cycling culture and cycle tourism can also find Pedalarcultura, an event series launched in 2010 and organised again in Ispra in 2026 by La Bottega del Romeo under the patronage of the Municipality of Ispra.
