Cuasso al Monte between the Ceresio and the historic centre

Cuasso al Monte combines lakeshore, foothills and established village structures. The municipality lies on the shore of the Ceresio opposite Morcote and on the road between Porto Ceresio and Ponte Tresa. If you are planning a holiday apartment in Cuasso al Monte, you can combine your trip with a variety of impressions: waterscapes, paths through the village and excursions into the surrounding area. The original historic centre lies at an altitude of around 520 m on a south-east-facing slope. Local porphyry and natural stone define it; a network of lanes and paths runs through the historic centre.

Natural surroundings with lake, park and porphyry

The Parco 5 Vette extends for 14 km across the municipal area. A small lake is also located there, in Cavagnano, and is protected because of the distinctive native fauna that still occurs there. Beyond the municipal area of Cuasso al Monte, the quarries of Porfido Rosso di Cuasso al Monte form an impressive landscape.

Hiking with a clearly defined circular route

One specific hike is the Bocchetta Sasso Bolle circular route. Within the municipality of Cuasso al Monte, it is around 12 km long and includes approximately 500 metres of ascent.

Mountain biking and a foothills circuit

On the Patanegra mountain bike trail, the route begins in the municipal area at the level of Alpe del Tedesco and leads downhill to Cuasso al Piano. The trail runs over a natural surface and includes numerous uphill sections as well as rock gardens. The Sulle prealpi varesine cycling circuit is around 70 km long and includes three climbs in the Varese foothills.

Traces of a castle, frescoes and mining

Cultural themes also form part of the village landscape. Castello di Cuasso is also known as Castelasc and was built in several stages during the Early Middle Ages. In the Chiesa di Sant’Ambrogio, the church preserves frescoes from the early 20th century by Luigi Morgari. In the hamlet of Cavagnano, silver, lead and small quantities of gold were mined at the Miniera della Cavallizza. The range of discoveries therefore extends from medieval architectural history and religious art to the former extraction of various metals.
