Discover Brusimpiano: Holiday apartment in Brusimpiano for the lake, trails and culture
Accommodation in Brusimpiano
Brusimpiano lies on the slopes of the Monti Derta and Castelletto, overlooking Lake Lugano. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Brusimpiano, you will find a place where landscapes, activities on the water, trails and culture are closely connected. The different highlights make it possible to plan your stay according to your own interests, without limiting the destination to a single type of holiday.
Lake, water and trails around Brusimpiano
The municipal lido is a publicly accessible, equipped green area directly on the lake. Anyone wishing to spend time by the water during their stay will find a convenient place to do so here. In addition, the Unione Pescatori del Ceresio in Brusimpiano offers fishing tourism. This allows you to combine your choice of accommodation with an interest in the lake and fishing, while other days can be devoted to trails and historic sites.
One of the notable natural attractions is the Cascate del Trallo. After passing between rocks in a section resembling a small cave, you will reach a view of the waterfall, which has a drop of around 20 metres. In Brusimpiano, the Cadorna Line runs across Monte Derta. Its section allows you to safely pass through the walkways or galleries of the fortifications and offers views over Lake Ceresio.
Hiking trails with history and distinctive features
The Frontiera Nord has also been enhanced with a series of nature and educational trails and routes. The Percorso Rodari is a path leading to Ardena that incorporates several famous lines by Gianni Rodari dedicated to the theme of travel. The contemplative Sentiero “L’arcobaleno dei colori” follows the course of the Trallo and passes visible remains of former mills. On short or longer walks, you can therefore encounter both natural features and traces of earlier uses.
Churches, frescoes and religious traditions
The Chiesa Santa Maria Nascente preserves valuable frescoes from the school of Bernardino Luini, as well as traditional furnishings and liturgical vestments. Its furnishings also include original frescoes, statues, marble work and paintings. The Santuario della Madonna di Ardena, also known as Madonna del Latte, was built at the beginning of the 17th century. San Martino is the oldest church in Brusimpiano and stands outside the town, near the Borgo di Brusimpiccolo.
In the old town centre, several sacred frescoes by local painters decorate the walls of the houses; they commemorate numerous natural disasters in the town. The Santuario della Madonna dell’Annunciazione e Caverna dell’Eremita, known as the Cappelletta, was built towards the end of the 17th century. A celebration of the Annunciation of Mary takes place there on the weekend around 25 March: on Saturday evening, a torchlight procession follows Via M. Bagattini to the chapel, while Mass is celebrated on Sunday.
The private Chiesa di Santa Rita has a matroneum from which the former lords attended Mass. The Chiesa dell’Immacolata “Madonna dei Canicc” is used for services celebrating the Immaculate Conception on 7 and 8 December. The celebration includes stalls selling the traditional “Oss de Mort”. Alongside nature and the lake, these regular events and local specialties give a trip to Brusimpiano a religious and culinary dimension.
Industrial history and places of remembrance
The Piscicoltura, owned by the municipality of Brusimpiano, was built entirely by fishermen and completed in 1929. It was intended to make it possible to release valuable fish fry, such as char, trout and whitefish, into Lake Ceresio. In 1922, Ernesto Thomas founded the eponymous Lanificio E. Thomas in Brusimpiano. The Lanificio E. Thomas specialised in producing high-quality fabrics that were exported worldwide. Giuseppe Garibaldi and his army also set out from Brusimpiano.
Brusimpiano is served by Autolinee Varesine. Route N06 runs between Varese, Bisuschio, Cuasso al Monte and Ponte Tresa and operates approximately once an hour. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can therefore first decide whether the connection between the lido and fishing tourism, the trails on Monte Derta and along the Trallo, the churches or the town’s historical traces is most important to you. These highlights offer different ways to shape your stay at your own pace.
