This gives you a destination where historical features and mountain scenery stand side by side. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Consiglio, you can base your choice of location on this combination of culture, paths and peaks.
Historical traces around Domofole
Domofole Castle was first mentioned in 1125 as a garrison of the noble Vicedomini family, who were the feudal lords of the Bishop of Como. It stands on a hill west of Mello and is considered a strategic point above the Lower Valtellina. At the same time, it was primarily a fortified aristocratic residence of the Vicedomini family and was closely connected with the settlement of Consiglio (Concilium) in Mello. In the Consiglio district of Mello, the castle stands at an elevation of about 540 metres. On Domofole Hill, parts of the walls surrounding the summit are still visible.
The medieval church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Domofole survives as an apse ruin with traces of old frescoes. Dating from the 18th century, the church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Domofole has a simple, rustic design and an exterior façade made of unrendered natural stone. In the area around Consiglio, the old apse of the church of San Giovanni di Bioggio preserves a fresco cycle from the 16th century by the painter Sigismondo de Magistris, who came from Como.
Peaks, slopes and paths
The peaks of Monte Sciesa and Cima di Malvedello are located near Consiglio. Corno del Colino and Cima del Calvo are also in the surrounding area. The Green Community ValGreen Trail reaches Consiglio along a path that climbs from Coffedo across terraced slopes. This combination of peaks, slopes and historic buildings gives the choice of location a scenic focus: a holiday apartment in Consiglio may be of interest if you would like to combine sightseeing with an orientation towards mountain and terraced landscapes.
