Holiday apartment in Ostiglia: Discover culture, nature and the Po landscape

A holiday apartment in Ostiglia is ideal for a stay that combines culture, river landscapes and active pursuits. Ostiglia lies on the left bank of the Po and is crossed by the ancient Via Claudia Augusta Padana.

Culture among castles, printing history and churches

Only three towers remain of Ostiglia’s historic castle: Campanaria, dell’Orologio and delle Prigioni. The Museo delle Torri is housed in the first two surviving towers and the connecting wall walk. Exhibits there illustrate Ostiglia’s history from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.

Another cultural facet is represented by the Palazzina Mondadori. The Liberty-style building housed Arnoldo Mondadori’s first printing works and has now been restored. The building contains his personal library of around 1,000 books, some of which are signed by their respective authors. Classrooms, multimedia rooms and exhibition spaces complete the venue. The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta in Ostiglia dates from the end of the 19th century and features a large Palladian-style floor into which three mosaic pieces have been set.

The Santuario della Beata Vergine also stands in the village of Comuna near Ostiglia. It dates from the end of the 14th century and was remodelled during the Renaissance by Giulio Romano. Together with the castle and the Palazzina Mondadori, it forms a cultural hub that brings different periods and themes together in a visible way.

Holiday apartment in Ostiglia for nature and cycling

The Paludi di Ostiglia wetlands belong to the Natura 2000 network and are among Italy’s internationally important wetlands. The area has birdwatching hides and telescopes; the Paludi are home to a total of 175 bird species. This offers you a nature experience that consists not only of landscapes, but also of deliberately observing birds.

The Ostiglia–Treviso cycle path is flat and lined with trees. It runs mainly along paved roads or gravel paths. The former railway line that connected Treviso with Ostiglia has been converted into a cycle path.

Po landscape and protected island

A small island of around 37 hectares in the bed of the Po between Ostiglia and Revere can be reached on foot or by boat when water levels are low. The island is classified as a Sito di Importanza Comunitario (SIC) and Zona di Protezione Speciale (ZPS) and is part of the European ecological network Natura 2000. The water level is therefore a concrete factor in whether this special natural area can be reached.

Which accommodation suits your plans

When choosing a holiday apartment in Ostiglia, you can use your preferred daily rhythm as a guide: historical sites and sacred art, observations in the wetlands or activity on a flat route lead to different holiday focuses. Ostiglia offers an unusually specific combination of history, nature and activities. The decision about the right accommodation therefore begins with the question of which of these aspects should shape your stay.
