Sulzano: Lake, Trails and Culture
Sulzano combines lakeside experiences, historic places and trails through the landscape. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Sulzano, you can divide your days between the lake, culture, walks and excursions. The historic lakeside promenade runs between old villas and gardens and offers small glimpses of Monte Isola and Lake Iseo. The municipal swimming area is also located on Via Cadorna. Three public beaches are accessible: Lido Le Palafitte, the municipal beach on Via Cadorna and Spiaggia Carini.

For arrival and access to the water, the railway station is an important landmark: it is located in the historic centre and is a three-minute walk from the landing stage. Sulzano is served by the Brescia–Iseo–Edolo regional railway line. Today, Sulzano is also the most suitable port for reaching Monte Isola, with very frequent connections during the day and at night. The Giro delle tre isole boat tour departs from the landing stage in Sulzano and takes you to the islands of S. Paolo, Monte Isola and Loreto.
Water sports are also part of the townscape. The Associazione Nautica Sebina is located on the picturesque gulf on the border with Pilzone di Iseo, formed by the Montecolo peninsula. Sailing is possible there; Sulzano is therefore a point of reference for sailing enthusiasts. Those choosing accommodation for different daily itineraries can take this focus into account just as much as the proximity to walking trails, beaches or cultural destinations.
Hiking between short walks and longer stages
The Antica Strada Valeriana, which begins in Sulzano, offers two clearly different options: heading south, an easy, short 5 km walk leads the way, while the northern direction offers a more demanding 20 km hike. These different trail lengths help you adapt your daily planning to your own fitness and the interests of your travel group. Another natural destination is the Cascata del Petoi, which can be reached via an approximately 30-minute walk through the forest. There is a Madonnina at the waterfall.
The Strada delle Api is designed as a nature trail with information panels and an educational apiary. It explains bees, pollinating Apoidea and bee protection. For a more peaceful stay, the picnic area on Via Nistisino along the Strada delle Api is a good option: it has tables, benches and a barbecue, but no toilets.
Churches, ridges and local traditions
Among the notable cultural sites is the Santuario di Santa Maria del Giogo, a 15th-century sanctuary on the panoramic ridge that descends southwards from Punta Almana. The Santuario offers panoramic views of Val Trompia and Lake Iseo. The Chiesa di San Fermo stands on a hill in the village of Gazzane di Sulzano and lies along the ancient Via Valeriana. Every year, the Festa di San Fermo is organised by the Associazione Culturale San Fermo at the church of the same name in Sulzano, on Via Gazzane.
The parish church of Chiesa di San Giorgio Martire in Sulzano was built in 1726. Its façade is divided into two registers and has rounded corners. Together with the Santuario, the Chiesa di San Fermo and the Festa di San Fermo, it creates a cultural day itinerary that can easily be combined with lakeside trails, a boat tour or a hike. When choosing your holiday apartment in Sulzano, you can therefore decide whether your trip should focus more on the water, physical activity or historic impressions.
