Trebbio among churches and high-altitude trails

Trebbio lies at 687 m above sea level. The Chiesa di San Martino Vescovo is a defining feature, standing in a prominent position on a hill. It was built in the first decades of the 18th century, around 1723.

Churches, fresco and inherited tradition

The interior of the Chiesa di San Martino Vescovo has a single nave and is fully painted. Its furnishings include side altars and an organ loft on the left. A religious fresco from the 17th century can be found on Casa Piccinelli, a former kindergarten on Via San Martino in Trebbio. It depicts the Madonna and Child, Saint Martin and Saint Anthony of Padua.

The Chiesa di Sant’Antonio di Padova in Trebbio was built between the 14th and 16th centuries, rebuilt in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and completed around 1879. At that time, it was dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. In Treviso Bresciano, the Canto della Stella has also been preserved as a traditional singing procession for the night of 5 January. Singers, some of whom are dressed as the Three Wise Men and preceded by a large star, move through the streets singing a traditional song that dates back to the 17th century.

Sentiero della Resistenza No. 10

Trebbio is one of the possible starting points for Sentiero della Resistenza No. 10. The route is also known as “Della Libertà e dei Caduti trevigiani” and runs along the high ridges between Idro, Treviso Bresciano, Provaglio Valle Sabbia and Val Degagna.

Sentiero della Resistenza No. 10 also passes through rugged, remote and little-visited areas. This varied character makes the route a planning consideration in its own right: if you are travelling with children of different ages, you can discuss in advance whether your shared interests lie more in churches, frescoes and inherited customs or in taking a closer look at the route described.

Orientation for planning your trip

Treviso Bresciano can only be reached from either Idro or Capovalle via the provincial road SP56. There are several car parks in the centre of Treviso Bresciano, particularly at the start of the route.

When choosing your holiday apartment in Trebbio, the destination’s combination of historic churches, a religious fresco, a traditional procession and the thematically distinctive high-altitude trail offers several points of reference. This allows you to decide before booking whether you want to focus your stay more on culture and local history or on engaging with a route that is explicitly rugged and remote.

Other places for orientation
