Bovezzo Between Devotion and Hilly Landscapes

Bovezzo combines religious heritage, a hilly landscape near the town centre and autumn traditions. The Santuario di Sant’Onofrio is located in the municipality of Bovezzo. Casa della Natura is located near the centre of Bovezzo in a hilly area of around 7,000 square metres.

Nature and Autumn Tradition in Bovezzo

Casa della Natura is also located on the circuit of the “Sagra del Marrone”. The municipalities of Bovezzo, Nave and Caino have been involved in this circuit for years. In autumn, the Sagra offers an opportunity to taste typical products from Valle Trompia and experience the rich woodlands on the outskirts of Brescia. On autumn days, the circuit can be combined with a tasting of regional products and the experience of the rich woodlands on the outskirts of Brescia. The three municipalities belong to this circuit; typical products from Valle Trompia and the rich woodlands on the outskirts of Brescia add culinary and landscape dimensions to the autumn theme.

Art and Ecclesiastical Heritage

Palazzo Rota features a chapel dedicated to Saint Carlo Borromeo, with an elaborately crafted marble altar and a nineteenth-century altarpiece. The Chiesetta di San Rocco contains a painting of the Crucifixion, dated to the beginning of the sixteenth century and still stylistically influenced by the fifteenth century. In August, the Chiesetta di San Rocco is the centre of a Sagra dedicated to the saint; the social festivities are organised by the Associazione Sagra di San Rocco. Those who choose art according to its historical period will encounter a nineteenth-century altarpiece and a Crucifixion painting from the beginning of the sixteenth century. Palazzo Rota, the Chiesetta di San Rocco and the August Sagra lead from sacred furnishings through painting to local festival tradition.

Traces of Processions and Pilgrimage Tradition

The Santella della Pentera is integrated into a path that formed part of the procession to the Santuario di Sant’Onofrio and almost had the character of a popular Sacro Monte. Together with the Santuario di Sant’Onofrio, this landmark points to the spiritual and communal aspects of the town’s history. The Santella is thus connected both with the procession to the Santuario and with the almost popular character of a Sacro Monte.
