Capriolo combines impressive cultural sites with paths along the Oglio and a strong Franciacorta tradition. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Capriolo, you can shape your trip around very different experiences: historic walls and churches, a hike to Monte Alto, or regional wines and specialities.

Culture and history around your holiday apartment in Capriolo

At the Museo Agricolo e del Vino Ricci Curbastro, four thematically arranged rooms preserve thousands of objects that bear witness to historical agricultural work. The Piccolo Museo della Memoria in the historic centre offers another perspective on the history of the town. It displays mementoes from the First and Second World Wars, as well as objects from everyday, agricultural and artisanal life.

The Chiesa Prepositurale di S. Giorgio was first mentioned in 1274 and extensively rebuilt and enlarged from 1674 onwards. It contains Gerolamo Romanino’s Resurrection, dated to around 1525. Medieval records, later structural changes and a work of the Renaissance thus come together in one place.

The Castello – Monastero di S. Maria degli Angeli complex is situated on the hill above Capriolo. It combines a castle at the foot with a monastery above it. The fortified complex is compact and irregularly trapezoidal in layout; it includes a central courtyard and high surrounding walls. Guided tours are organised by Pro Loco Capriolo. For days focused on culture, this offers a combination of sacred art, local history and distinctive architecture.

River landscapes, paths and active days

Capriolo is one of the municipalities in Parco dell’Oglio Nord. In Parco Regionale dell’Oglio Nord, a cycle and walking path runs along the river. The 280-kilometre Ciclovia dell’Oglio is also located there, connecting Valle Camonica with the Po Valley. The Sentiero Verde dell’Oglio leads to the historic Capriolo NK cotton mill and crosses under the railway line twice beforehand.

Stage 3 of the Via delle Sorelle also allows you to experience the landscape in several sections. After the villages and vineyards of Corte Franca and Adro, it passes through Capriolo. After the historic centre, the stage follows the Oglio River along the Sentiero Verde dell’Oglio towards Paratico. The different routes help you distinguish between a longer stage, a waterside hike and a cycle tour through the river landscape.

The approximately 10-kilometre circular hike on Monte Alto begins near the Chiesa di San Giorgio and climbs uphill to the castle. Along the way, it passes the Chiesa degli Alpini and reaches the summit, marked by a cross. The Via Fontane Vecchie adds to the network of routes in the town: the paved lane connects the lower part of the town with the Castello-Monastero. This area with natural springs also includes the historic Fontane Antiche fountain area.

Franciacorta and specialities from Capriolo

Wine and local traditions are part of the regional side of your stay. A tasting at Tenuta Moraschi offers at least two and at most four varieties of Franciacorta Moraschi DOCG. Lantieri offers guided cellar tours explaining the production of Franciacorta D.O.C.G. and ending with a tasting of representative wines from the winery.

A distinctive culinary tradition takes centre stage at the Sagra di San Giorgio, held every April: La Ret, the local salami from Capriolo with De.-Co. designation. This provides a clear thematic framework for planning your holiday apartment stay: you can combine cultural discoveries, paths along the river, active days and regional tastings without committing to just one type of holiday.
