Giusvalla between the Apennines, valley and meadows
Giusvalla lies on the northern slope of the Ligurian Apennines, in the Erro Valley and west of Beigua Park. Most of the municipality of Giusvalla lies in the valley of the Torrente Valla. At Cavanna, the Torrente Valla is joined by the Torrente Giusvaletta. The valley of the Torrente Valla and the tributary at Cavanna thus complement the location details relating to the Apennines and the Erro Valley.
Today, most of the municipal area of Giusvalla is covered by coppice woodland. The valley floor also contains broad meadow areas that are gradually becoming overgrown again. The renewed encroachment of vegetation makes the meadows a changing part of the landscape, while the coppice woodland forms the larger area in terms of surface coverage. Thus, wooded areas and open valley landscapes meet within the municipality.
Castle ruins and ecclesiastical history
The cultural and historical points of interest include the ruins of a medieval castle in Giusvalla. Giusvalla Castle is also protected as a historic monument under Legislative Decree 42/2004. The parish church of S. Matteo preserves a holy water font dating from the 13th century. The ruins belong to a medieval castle, while the holy water font is a precisely dated ecclesiastical detail from the 13th century.
Mulino and rural culture
The rural chapel of Madonna del Deserto is located in the hamlet of Mulino. It was built in 1912 and houses a wooden statue of Madonna del Deserto. The Museo Civiltà Contadina is located in the Sala “L. Bigatti”. Alongside the castle ruins and the parish church, the chapel and museum add further specific cultural sites whose names, location and contents are closely connected with Giusvalla.
X3 circular trail and panoramic views
The circular trail “Giro del Bricco della Croce” is marked X3. It starts and ends at Piazza del Municipio and offers panoramic views of the centre of Giusvalla. Its circular route makes Piazza del Municipio the common starting and finishing point. This provides a fixed place in the village for planning the return, while the panoramic views connect the circular trail with the town centre.
