Several access points lead to the beach: among others, it can be reached from the panoramic road Lungomare Dante Alighieri and via the access points at the foot of the town on Corso Libero Longhi. Castello di Villafranca and historic churches

East of Moneglia, Castello di Villafranca rises on a hill. It was built in 1173 by Genoese military architects as a watchtower. The Castello has a panoramic position and dominates the entire arc of the gulf. The tower can be reached via a gentle staircase that has several higher steps in its upper section. The permanent exhibition “Munegia antiga” at the Castello presents historical evidence of the town as well as numerous old objects from fishing, agriculture, weaving, woodworking and other crafts.

The Chiesa di San Giorgio has origins dating back to the 15th century. The monastery and the two cloisters attached to the church acquired their present form around 1600. Among other works, the Chiesa di San Giorgio houses the wooden group of figures “San Giorgio e il Drago” from the school of Maragliano; the polyptych dedicated to Saint Lawrence by Giovanni da Pisa, dating from the period between the late 14th century and the first years of the 15th century; the polyptych dedicated to Saint Louis of Toulouse, created by Giovanni Barbagelata in the early years of the 16th century; and “L'adorazione dei Magi” by Luca Cambiaso. The upper vault of the presbytery also contains the painting “San Giorgio che uccide il drago”, attributed to Rubens. The Oratorio dei Disciplinanti is likewise accessed via a staircase.

Nature trails, rocks and seabed

There are numerous nature trails in the hills around Moneglia. The Sentiero Liguria passes through the historic center, where it runs through the old Caruggi. A branch of the route leads to the rocks of Punta Moneglia, a climbing area high above the sea and a destination for sport climbers.

The rocky coast also shapes the possible holiday activities: there are climbing walls along certain sections. The seabed off Moneglia offers diving enthusiasts a variety of attractions, particularly along the rocky coast.
