Holiday apartment in Tobia between tradition and landscape
The town’s religious tradition includes the Palm Sunday procession. The faithful gather in the piazza in front of house number 111 on Strada Tobia. The procession leads to the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario, and the Palm Sunday celebrations include the blessing of the palm branches.
Madonna del Rosario is the patron saint of the Tobia community. At the celebration announced for 5 October 2025, the procession was followed by a solemn Mass and a traditional prayer of intercession to Madonna del Rosario. As part of this announced celebration, refreshments were also planned in the parish hall, where local gastronomic specialities could be brought to share.
Historical references in Tobia
Castello di Petrignano near Tobia can be traced back to the 11th century. In 1056, it was known as “Castellum de Petrugnano”. In 1245, Castello di Petrignano was destroyed by Vitale d’Aversa.
Another historical detail is Tobia’s Fontanile, with its attached washhouse. It was built by the Chigi family; the family’s coat of arms is located between the two water spouts. The ancient Fontanile di Tobia is considered to be in poor condition. Via Fonte di Tobia takes its name from it.
Hiking among olives, chestnuts and culinary delights
The ninth edition of the “Tobia San Martino olio e vino” hike took place in 2023 along a natural-history, food-and-wine and cultural route from Tobia to San Martino al Cimino and back. A section of the Via Francigena led through olive groves and chestnut forests.
The ninth edition of this hike also included a tasting at the Frantoio oleario di Tobia. The tasting at the Frantoio oleario di Tobia complemented the route with a specific selection of food and drinks. The offerings included bruschette, freshly produced extra virgin olive oil, beans, sausages, roasted chestnuts and wine.
Encounters in the piazza
A new edition of the event “Una sera…tutti in piazza” was scheduled for 11 July 2026 in the piazza of the village of Tobia. The event is organised by the Associazione per Tobia; it serves as a meeting place for the community and visitors.
