Holiday apartment in Tre Pontoni – discover culture and trails

Tre Pontoni combines traces of history with walks and independent experiences in nature. Rocca Colonna, the Ponte Storto–Valle del Tevere area and Veio Regional Park lead from architectural and sacred art to well-marked hiking trails.

Culture between fortress, palace and sacred art

Rocca Colonna was transformed from a fortified military structure into a Renaissance palace. The frescoes in the Chapel of San Silvestro inside the Rocca were restored after having been covered by several layers of paint. The Chapel of San Silvestro is located inside the Rocca; its restored frescoes therefore form part of the interior of the former fortress and palace complex.

Tre Pontoni is part of the Ponte Storto–Valle del Tevere area. The Grotta Colonna quarry complex belongs to this area; it is depicted on Mattei’s map from 1674. The Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta houses a wooden Salvatore triptych from 1507, attributed to Antoniazzo Romano.

In Castelnuovo di Porto, the Loggia Pinta dates from 1568 and is attributed to Federico Zuccari. The Veio Regional Park is home to the early medieval rock settlement of Belmonte, with its tower and fortifications. The Chiesa di San Sebastiano preserves a 16th-century fresco depicting Castelnuovo di Porto in the background. The Chiesa della Madonna delle Virtù has a Greek-cross-shaped interior and a Baroque, temple-like altar. Here, the motifs range from the loggia and the rock settlement to the fresco, Greek cross and Baroque altar.
