Taipana: Nature, Trails and Slovenian Traditions
Accommodation in Taipana
Taipana is a destination for anyone who wants to combine experiences in nature, active days and regional culture. The area offers a variety of ways to do this: expansive landscapes in the intermunicipal park, marked trails, waterfalls, a historic stone bridge and a museum dedicated to rural life. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, you can therefore first consider which of these experiences should be the focus of your trip.
Nature and Trails Around Taipana
The intermunicipal park “Parco comunale Gran Monte e sorgenti del Natisone” covers the municipality of Taipana and extends over 3,528.98 hectares. It partly includes the Natura 2000 site ZSC IT3320017 Rio Bianco di Taipana e Gran Monte and the Natura 2000 site ZPS IT3321002 Alpi Giulie. These designations refer to a landscape in which different excursions each have their own character.
The “Anello di Zore” circular route follows a marked trail shared by cyclists and hikers and offers views of Monte Matajur. A large car park is available for this circular route at Taipana’s sports facilities. Another option is the moderately difficult “Anello Sorgenti del Cornappo” circular route. It offers views of the first section of the Rio Cornappo, with small waterfalls, forests and scree slopes, as well as clear water flowing down from the Gran Monte. There is a small car park for this route at the entrance to Tanaiauarie.
The Cascata della Certenja can also be included in your day’s plans. The waterfall is 8 metres high and has a small pond at its foot. A descending path leads there from Tanaiauarie; at a fork, take the left-hand branch. Those who want to combine historical traces with a hike will find the ancient Roman bridge of Montemaggiore below Montemaggiore, in the direction of the sources of the Rio Bianco. The path from this stone structure to Prossenicco crosses the Cammino Celeste, which runs through this part of the Friulian Slavia.
Active Experiences and Regional Culture
The Taipana Trail Zone adds 13.5 kilometres of gravity descents to the hiking opportunities. The facility also includes a jump area equipped with Big Air. The Spin8 trail allows riders to enjoy cross-country and downhill riding. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether your trip will focus more on hikes, cycling experiences or a mix of different activities.
The “Testimonianze della civiltà contadina” museum offers a cultural complement. It is housed in the parish house in the village of Prossenicco and presents an extensive exhibition of everyday objects from rural life. The museum also has a valuable collection of Pust masks from the traditional Slovenian carnival. For families and other groups of travellers, this provides an insight into local ways of life and a tradition that differs from the natural experiences in the surrounding area.
Flavours and Trip Planning
Around 100 chamois goats originating from the Alps are kept at Azienda Agricola Zore. They are taken out to pasture from May to October. The farm processes the milk by hand in its own dairy into cheese and other dairy products; Azienda Agricola Zore also has a farm shop. This insight into agricultural work adds a regional aspect to your excursions.
Whether you are looking for a holiday apartment for varied days of hiking, accommodation suited to an interest in nature and culture, or a holiday home as a base for active pursuits: in Taipana, you can choose your location according to how you want to spend your days. Trails, waterfalls, the natural landscape and the museum experience each offer a different focus. For further trip planning, you can also choose Aquileia, Corno Di Rosazzo, Sella Nevea, Lauco, Ragogna, Sant'Eliseo, San Giovanni Al Natisone and Faedis.
