Ravello appeals to travellers who want to combine gardens, art and cultural experiences. Between the garden of Villa Rufolo, the Duomo di Ravello, the Museo del Duomo and the Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium, a varied sightseeing programme takes shape. When searching for a holiday apartment in Ravello, you can therefore consider which of these experiences should be the focus of your trip.

Gardens with different stories

The garden of Villa Rufolo, also known as Giardino dell’Anima, extends across two levels. The garden of Villa Cimbrone has a particularly notable historical background: its history began in 1904, when Ernest William Beckett transformed an old country house into a romantic English manor and added elements inspired by Mediterranean architecture. The garden includes the Belvedere dell’Infinito, from which the view opens out.

These two gardens give your trip different accents. Villa Rufolo takes you to a garden designed across two levels, while Villa Cimbrone, with its history dating back to 1904 and the Belvedere dell’Infinito, provides another cultural and scenic landmark. If you enjoy alternating between garden visits and other discoveries, you can include these places as fixed elements of your daily itinerary.

Cathedral art and distinctive buildings

The Duomo di Ravello also offers specific points of interest for a cultural trip. The cathedral’s bronze doors were donated to it by Sergio Muscettola in 1179 and created by Barisano of Trani. In the Museo del Duomo, which opened in 1983 in the ancient crypt of the basilica, the collections preserve classical and medieval works, urns, sarcophagi, sculptures, mosaics, stone ornaments and silver artefacts.

In addition, the Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium in Ravello was designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.

The Ravello Festival in summer

The Ravello Festival was established in 1953. Its creation was inspired by Richard Wagner’s visit to the gardens of Villa Rufolo in 1880 and his description of these gardens as the “magic garden of Klingsor”. The festival takes place every summer from July to September. This period may be important for your travel planning if you want to discover Ravello specifically because of the festival.

Ravello as a base for your trip

From Amalfi, Ravello can be reached by taxi or SITA bus via a 7-kilometre connection. This specific travel option can be taken into account when planning your accommodation and excursions. If you primarily want to visit the gardens and museum, you can organise your stay around these cultural interests. Those who choose the festival period, on the other hand, should plan July to September as a separate part of their trip.

Ravello is therefore suitable for a trip with different cultural focuses. When choosing your holiday apartment, consider which focus will shape your trip most strongly, and plan your desired discoveries from there.
