The Grotta dei Saraceni is located in Contrada Gujuni or Gullune, a short distance from the riverbed of the Torrente Levadìo, in a natural limestone cave. It contains the remains of the ruined Basilian monastery oratory of Sant'Anania. The Stone of Sant'Anania is an irregularly shaped limestone monolith in the Gujune area of Martone and provides a distinctive feature in the local landscape.

The history of the monastery also reaches far back: a Basilian community near Martone established the monastery of Sant'Anania between the 9th and 11th centuries. The monastery served as a refuge for the area's first Christians.

Rock formations and mixed forest

The Pietre du monaceju area in Martone is characterised by large rocks of unusual origin and shape. The Bosco del Principe offers a different landscape impression: this area, of interest for natural history and hiking, lies at higher elevations in Martone and is characterised by an atmospheric mixed forest of beech trees and silver firs. Torre Mazzoni has a square structure, a sloping foundation and four buttresses. Palazzo Amaduri, a palace, is also located in the immediate vicinity of Martone. Villa Romana - Naniglio, an ancient site, and Mulino Linares, a historic site, are likewise nearby. Palazzo Carafa di Roccella Jonica, also a palace, is located in the surrounding area of Martone.

A ‘Ntinna is repeated every year in Martone in August during the patronal festival of San Giorgio. For 15 and 16 November 2025, the Sagra della Castagna was announced in Martone, featuring tastings of chestnuts, traditional sweet specialities and dishes from the farming tradition.
