Calabria combines landscapes, trails, historical traces and coastal towns into a regional picture with clearly distinct facets. On the Sila plateau, nature takes centre stage, while Squillace preserves cultural ties reaching back to ancient Greece. From the Costa degli Dei, the view opens onto activities at sea, and several beaches lie in the wider regional area. In between, museums, historical sites, viewpoints and special places point to the diversity of the region.

Nature and trails

The Parco Nazionale della Sila protects the natural heritage of the Sila plateau. In this setting, the park offers trails for hiking, cycling and horse riding. Another route through the landscape is the Sentiero Calabria, which includes a stage from Tiriolo to the Santuario Madonna di Porto. Thus, individual trails and an explicitly named stage within the Calabrian landscape stand alongside one another.

Two adventure parks are also among the nature and recreational attractions described. Orme nel Parco is an adventure park with a high-ropes course among beech trees in the heart of Sila Piccola. Silavventura is an adventure park in the forests of the Parco Nazionale della Sila in Lorica, on the shore of Lago Arvo. Each of the two places is associated with its own landscape: in one case, the beech trees in the heart of Sila Piccola; in the other, the forests near Lorica and the shore of Lago Arvo.

The Panorama dal Monte Tiriolo viewpoint is located in the area around Calabria. It adds an explicitly named viewpoint to the trails and natural attractions, without equating its location with the parks or lakeshores mentioned.

Culture and history

Cultural destinations in the area around Calabria include the Palazzo Alemanni palace. The Museo del Borgo museum is also located in the surrounding area. The Pro Loco Gimigliano historical site, by contrast, is located in the immediate vicinity of Calabria. Another museum, MUSMI - Museo Militare, is located in the area around Calabria. The different designations—palace, museum and historical site—remain distinct, as do their respective geographical classifications.

A particularly far-reaching cultural trace leads to Squillace. The town has origins dating back to ancient Greece. At the same time, Squillace is known for ceramics; its tradition preserves the heritage of ancient Greece. Here, origins and craftsmanship belong together: the ancient roots are not only mentioned in terms of time, but are also linked to a ceramic tradition.

In Diamante, an academy organises a festival every year in September. The date is therefore firmly tied to September; the type of festival remains unspecified. Together with Squillace and the museums, this creates a cultural section that places temporal traditions, historical origins and individual institutions alongside one another.

Coast and sea

At the beaches of the Costa degli Dei, diving trips and excursions to sea caves are possible. The sea caves can be reached by swimming or by boat. This description connects the beach area with two specific forms of sea-based experience and also names both ways of accessing the cave excursion.

Several beaches lie in the wider regional area of Calabria: Spiaggia di Catanzaro Lido, Spiaggia di Roccelletta and Spiaggia di Maringoli. Each is classified as an independent beach in this wider regional area.
