Holiday apartment in Colosimi: Discover forests, trails and churches

Colosimi combines an extensive forest landscape with hiking trails, waterways and remarkable evidence of its religious and local history. Most of the area is covered by forest; at the same time, Colosimi is one of the municipalities within the Sila Biosphere Reserve. This creates a destination for your travel planning where nature experiences and cultural discoveries stand side by side as distinct focal points.

Forests, waterways and distinctive landscapes

The Colosimi area is rich in waterways and hiking trails with designated rest and refreshment points. One of the most striking landscape features is a natural canyon carved by the Savuto River, with impressive rock walls and lush vegetation. The Foresta di Faggio di Bocca di Piazza is associated with Colosimi and Bianchi, adding a distinctive beech forest to the picture of the wooded surroundings.

Hiking trails with historical connections

The Cammino di San Giacomo Maggiore in Calabria is divided into nine stages and is approximately 141 kilometres long. This route is intended to use only public paths as well as provincial, municipal and local roads inside and outside built-up areas; private land is not to be crossed. A historical addition is the ancient mule track between Colosimi and Parenti, which was once the only connecting route between the two places. The former character of this connection and the planned route of the Cammino represent two different historical periods of travel.

Churches, squares and places of remembrance

The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta is the main church in Colosimi. It houses the statue of Maria SS. Assunta, the patron saint of Colosimi; the feast of Maria SS. Assunta is celebrated there on 15 August. In the district of Ischi is the Chiesa della Madonna di Loreto, which dates from the late 17th century.

Historic religious buildings can also be found in other districts and squares: the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie in Rizzuti dates from 1735, while the Chiesa della Madonna Immacolata e di San Vito in Arcuri dates from 1752. The Chiesa della Santissima Trinità in Coraci dates from the 17th or 18th century. In Carrano stands the Chiesa di Santa Barbara, dating from the early 20th century, while Trearie is home to the Chiesa della Madonna Immacolata, which also dates from the early 20th century. Palazzo Mascaro, a historic 18th-century palace, is also located in Piazza Plebiscito.
