Above the town, the Bosco della montagnola forms a wooded belt. Nearby, Monte Barone has an equipped picnic area. Lago Forano lies on the high slopes of Monte Sparviere and is a place of particular natural interest.

Plataci preserves its Arbëreshë mother tongue and traditional customs. At the same time, the Greek-Byzantine rite is practised here. The settlement has late medieval origins and was founded in the second half of the 15th century by a group of Albanian refugees.

This history is also reflected in the architecture of the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista: the building has a basilical floor plan with three naves and a semi-octagonal apse. The Chiesa di San Rocco was built at the end of the 19th century. Elsewhere, the “Sistema Gramisci” clock is still visible today; it bears witness to local mechanical craftsmanship.

The historic centre also bears the traces of the Concorso Murales initiative, launched in 2007 to create murals on the façades of houses. Culture in Plataci is not limited to older buildings: since 1997, the Itinerari Gramsciani series has been associated with conferences and discussion sessions.

Forest trails, pilgrimage and viewpoints

The Torretta forestale is a viewpoint in the surrounding area. The Sentieri naturalistici lead through several scenic stations and give the landscape a dynamic, observant character. The celebration of the Cappella della Madonna del Monte also connects the town with a pilgrimage on foot along wooded paths to Monte Barone, where the chapel is located.

The Cappella della Madonna del Monte was built in 1954. Its feast is held on 21 August, with processions in the morning and afternoon.

Plataciland is an adventure park immediately next to the centre of Plataci, adding a more active dimension to the town’s natural and cultural themes.

Flavours and summer events

SHTRIDHËLA is hand-pulled pasta. It is made by gradually thinning a firm dough of flour, water and salt. The municipal summer programme for 2026 includes the traditional Sagra della Shtridhla.

Gjitonia was included in Plataci’s 2026 summer programme as its sixth edition.
