Váralja: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Váralja Forest Park is a well-known excursion and recreational area in the eastern Mecsek and lies within the administrative boundaries of Váralja. The Kelet-Mecsek Landscape Protection Area is located directly next to the forest park.

Several routes lead through the landscape around Váralja. The “Kalandozás a Váraljai- és az Óbányai-völgyben” route is approximately 16.2 kilometres long, has an estimated duration of seven hours and is of medium difficulty. The “Váraljáról Komlóra a Farkas-árok szurdokán át” route covers approximately 20.8 kilometres, has an estimated duration of six hours and is considered challenging. The “Váralja-Óbánya-Kisújbánya-Váralja” circular route is approximately 15.8 kilometres long, has an estimated duration of four hours and is of medium difficulty.

Culture and History
Váralja-Várfő is the site of a castle dating from the 13th century, situated on a mountain peak rising steeply from the valley of the Völgységi Stream.
The Reformed Church of Váralja is protected as a national monument and was built between 1802 and 1807. Its nave has a painted flat ceiling with an individual colour scheme, which presumably dates from the 1807 decorative painting. The Evangelical Church in Váralja was built in 1845 and stands on Kossuth Lajos Street, the village’s main road.
The Váralja Mining Museum presents its exhibition in a section of an underground mine that was formerly in operation. It preserves mining tools, machines and equipment that were once used in everyday mining operations. The museum can be visited by prior appointment; visitors are welcomed by retired miners.
The Népművészeti Ház in Váralja features an exhibition on the German minority, a traditional folk dance group and memorabilia relating to the 200 years of coal mining. Two rooms in the house display memorabilia of traditional Hungarian life in Váralja. The Népművészeti Ház can be visited by prior appointment.
Local Tradition
The Váralja Kuglóf Festival revolves around the traditional Váralja wedding cake. The programme includes kneading and tasting kuglóf.
