Culture and History
The Reformed Church of Neszmély is a Gothic church dating from the late 14th century; at the end of the 15th century, it was extended to the east. The Király-kút fountain, designated as a heritage-like structure, also dates from the 15th century. Neszmély is also home to a castle ruin from the 15th century that is considered worth seeing.
The Church of Kisboldogasszony was built at the end of the 19th century. Its organ was commissioned in Vienna by the Klosterneuburg Monastery of the Canons Regular. The Sertés-völgyi pincesor, a historic row of wine cellars, is also located in Neszmély.
Shipping
Steamships lie on the calm waters of Szent Ilona Bay at the Hajóskanzen in Neszmély. On the Neszmély steamship at the Hajóskanzen, visitors can see the steam engine in operation and try out an interactive steering simulator in the wheelhouse.
The paddlewheel tugboat “ZOLTÁN,” a New Danube-type vessel, was declared a protected technical monument in 2008. The steamship “ZOLTÁN” currently houses an exhibition on the history of shipping and a themed library.
Wine and Events
The annual Hídverő Napok in Neszmély are dedicated to presenting the culture of the border region and the Hungarian minority, preserving local traditions, and strengthening cross-border Slovak-Hungarian relations.
Hilltop Borbirtok welcomes guests on Melegeshegy amid 250 hectares of its own vineyards, offering panoramic views of the Danube and a variety of culinary experiences in the Neszmély wine region.
