In Baj, the Gerecse Forest covers two thirds of the area, which spans two square kilometres. The Baji Vineyard lies on the slopes of the Gerecse Mountains in the area of Baj; its south-facing plots have loess soils and good drainage, making them suitable for viticulture.

Landscape
Traditional press houses and wine cellars line the Baji Vineyard, where they are regarded as living testimonies to the local wine culture. The Baji Vineyard offers views of the surrounding landscape, the forests of the Gerecse Mountains and towards Tata. Borboléta Pincekert is located in the vineyard of Baj on Esterházy-nagypince út, 2836 Baj, Szőlőhegy, plot 2418. There, Borboléta Pincekert uses locally grown fruit to produce special jams, candied fruit, fruit cheese and fruit-based confectionery.
Culture and History
The Roman Catholic church in Baj dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi was built from 1764 to 1795 in the German version of French Rococo, in the Zopf style; Fellner Jakab and Anton Gott are named as its master builders. The Assisi Szent Ferenc-templom contains four frescoes depicting the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ, the founding of the church and the Descent of the Holy Spirit. It also contains a finely painted, wood-carved Stations of the Cross in relief, made in Ortisei in South Tyrol. The Angster organ in the Assisi Szent Ferenc-templom in Baj was restored as part of a project to preserve and present natural, architectural and cultural heritage.
The Rákóczi barrel, made in 1832, held 1,250 akó, or 67,150 litres, and was considered the largest barrel in Europe at the time.
Hiking Trails
The Baj–Körtemplom circular hike begins in Baj next to the wine cellars, leads via the Calvary to the Szent-Péter Rotunda and returns to Baj via the Új-Hegyi lookout point. From Baj, the S hiking trail leads into the forests of Öreg-Kovács. The Tarján–Baj–Tata route follows a narrow, wild and romantic forest path alongside the Stations of the Baji Calvary in the direction of Baj.
The proximity of the Gerecse Mountains offers opportunities for hiking and excursions from Baj. The stations of the Baji Calvary extend for almost 2 km along a wild and romantic route. A few hundred metres after the lower end of the Baji Calvary, you reach a bus stop from which you can travel back to Tata.
Festivals Throughout the Year
A traditional festival of the German-speaking population takes place in Baj on Whit Sunday. The Baj parish festival commemorating Saint Francis' Day is celebrated in early October. A traditional grape harvest procession takes place in Baj in September.
