The beach and ancient traces give Pisses two distinct sides. In the valley, a visible tower base and the small church of Agios Isidoros recall the history of the place; at the beach, possible activities depend on conditions. For your holiday planning, this offers a clear choice between days on the coast and exploring the area around Poiessa. When looking for a holiday rental, consider whether you want to spend your stay mainly at the beach or also set aside time for the historical traces in the valley.

Ancient traces in Pisses and the valley

At the site of the ancient city of Poiessa near Písses, the rounded base of a fortification tower is still visible. Its surviving form makes this architectural remnant tangible: it is a concrete testament to the history of the ancient settlement.

The small church of Agios Isidoros in the valley of Písses was built using ancient building materials. Different architectural traces therefore stand side by side: the base of a fortification tower at the site of Poiessa and a church whose construction incorporated ancient materials. The church is notable for the reuse of materials, while the tower base recalls an earlier fortification.

The wider region also has an archaeological connection to the coast: remains of an ancient harbour have been identified on the southern coast of Kea.

Route through the valley

Route 10 (Poiiessa) connects the Agia Marina Tower with Písses, passes the Hellenistic tower and runs through the valley. The route description thus links a named tower with the valley and the destination of Písses—another way to explore the area's history, beyond looking at individual structures.

The route is about 5.5 km long. This approximate distance helps you gauge the scope of a possible walk. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Plan beach days according to the conditions

Písses beach has some facilities during the season. When conditions are suitable, windsurfing and snorkelling are possible; when the wind dies down, the water is suitable for swimming. The wind is therefore a specific factor in planning your day: different water activities take centre stage depending on the conditions.

The beach scene also includes a volleyball net and sun loungers on the sand. Together with the water activities that depend on conditions, this makes for a coastal focus that can include both active pursuits and quieter time at the beach.

When searching for a holiday rental, you can use these two themes to guide the kind of holiday mix you want: do you want the coast to define your stay, or would you also like to set aside time for buildings and archaeological traces alongside beach days? This lets you tailor your search to the travel interests that bring you to Pisses.
