Tyros combines a traditional settlement with a coastline, beaches and distinctive hills. The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times; the traditional settlement lies on the slopes of Mount Parnon. This offers a variety of ways to plan your holiday: you can choose a day by the water, a hike, or an exploration of the area’s history and culture.

Between Mount Parnon and the Coast

On the northeastern side of Tyros, Cape Trikeri lies next to Tigani Beach. Its name refers to the cape’s three peaks. South of Tyros Beach rises Kastro Hill. Parts of a fortification remain on Kastro: four square towers and a semicircular tower. These two places appeal to different interests—coastal scenery at one, architectural traces on the hill at the other.

At Cape Trikeri, a hiking trail leads to Avlaki Beach, where you can swim. An old lime kiln stands along the same route. If you enjoy walking and want to combine an outing with time by the water, you can do both as part of one trip. At nearby Lygeria Beach, you can explore the underwater world or relax. These options offer different ways to spend your time: a route ending at a beach, activities on the water, or a more peaceful stay at the neighboring beach.

Culture and History in the Townscape

Three windmills stand above the harbor and have been classified as monuments by the Greek Ministry of Culture. A fourth windmill is located in Upper Tyros, on Mylos Hill; its stone exterior has been preserved. Comparing the three mills above the harbor with the fourth on Mylos brings out the different locations of these historic structures, without grouping them together as a single attraction.

Tyros also preserves traces of past work at sea: the stone base of the mining loading chute is still visible. The chute was used to load barite onto ships. On a walk along the Tyros coast, you can also see the Fishermen’s Monument. Together, these places offer different ways to explore the area’s history: through a surviving structure, a monument along the coastal path, and the mills above the harbor.
