Arillas Magouladon: Arillas Trail and Route 6
Accommodation in Arillas Magouladon
The Arillas Trail runs along Arillas Stream to the olive groves in the village’s agricultural area. The route described is about 8.5 kilometres long and takes approximately two hours. This gives Arillas Magouladon a clearly described trail whose route and timeframe can be factored into planning a stay in Corfu.
The Arillas Trail and Route 6
The municipal accessibility plan offers another point of reference: it describes “Route 6, Arillas” as having two axes. One road axis runs from the Kerkyra Brewery building to the coastal road; the second covers the coastal front. Thus, alongside the Arillas Trail, the local planning document describes two differently laid-out axes.
Corfu: Old Town and Museums
In the wider destination of Corfu, the Old Town offers an urban cultural highlight. Its historic urban fabric has been almost entirely preserved; the buildings date from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Old Town and its two fortresses are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Museum of Asian Art is also located in Corfu’s Old Town. Its collection comprises more than 11,000 objects from China, Japan, India, the Himalayas and Central Asia. From Corfu Port, the museum can be reached by bus line 2 on the Mantouki–Kanoni route; check the timetable before travelling.
A remarkable exhibit takes centre stage at the Archaeological Museum of Corfu: the Gorgon Medusa pediment from the great Temple of Artemis. It was created in 585 BC and excavated near the Monastery of Aghioi Theodoroi in 1911. The museum was built primarily to display this pediment. Casa Parlante in the Old Town offers a different historical perspective: moving figures and reconstructed furnishings and interiors recreate the daily life of the island’s aristocracy in the 19th century. The permanent exhibition at the Kapodistrias Museum explores the history of Corfu, Europe and Greece through the life of Greece’s first governor, using significant artefacts and documents.
Corfu: Hiking Trails and Cultural Traditions
The wider destination of Corfu also offers different options for planning days out hiking. In the municipal unit of Achilleion, ancient paths wind through the wooded mountains of Agii Deka, Stavros and Garouna and are suitable for hiking. The 180-kilometre Corfu Trail passes through several settlements; Benitses is one of its 13 overnight stops. By comparison, the section of the Arillas Trail described here, at about 8.5 kilometres, is considerably shorter. The trails in Achilleion and the Corfu Trail are therefore further examples of hiking options in Corfu, but are not part of the Arillas Trail.
For a more peaceful landscape perspective, the lush garden on the hill by the Kapodistrias Museum offers views of Corfu’s countryside and across the island. Cultural traditions are also part of planning a trip: numerous festivals, folk festivals and cultural events organised by the municipality take place in the villages of the municipal unit of Achilleion; the programme varies. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can weigh up whether a clearly described trail in Arillas, the Old Town and its museums, or other hiking and cultural themes in Corfu should shape your stay most.
