Keramotí combines a beach just outside the village with a mountain hiking trail above the settlement and several religious sites. This combination offers different themes to consider when planning a vacation: coast, activity and history. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider what you would like to focus on during your days here.

Beach and Coastal Location

Keramotí’s beach is just outside the village and is relatively large. In places, it consists of pebbles and stones. The beach lies between Cape Koutoulos and the tiny island of Diapori. This makes it possible to consider both its surface and its location in relation to named coastal landmarks. If you primarily look for a beach when choosing a vacation destination, you will find useful, specific information here. The beach is 75 km southwest of Chaniá and 36 km south of Kissamos.

A rough gravel road connects the settlement of Keramotí with the beach; a suitable vehicle is recommended for the journey. There are no tourist facilities at the beach. Both details are relevant when planning beach days: the road affects the journey, while the lack of facilities affects your time by the water. As road conditions and suitability can change, check the road and whether your vehicle is suitable locally before setting out.

The Mountain Hiking Trail to Kámbos

A 6 km mountain hiking trail runs from Amygdalokefáli through Keramotí to Kámbos. Keramotí is therefore also a stop along this named route. Its course provides a clear framework for planning a hike: Amygdalokefáli is the starting point, Kámbos the destination, and Keramotí lies in between. Check trail conditions before setting out.

Churches and Historical Remembrance

The religious buildings are also situated in different locations. The Church of Saint John the Hermit stands in a gorge within the settlement of Keramotí. The Church of Christ the Savior is located a few metres above the middle of the beach. This gives you two distinct locations to orient yourself by: one church within the settlement and another above the middle of the beach.

The small chapel of Xotikospílio was built in memory of women and children who, according to tradition, were killed by the Ottomans on Good Friday in 1824 after taking refuge in a cave. Its commemorative purpose makes the chapel a specific point of interest for travelers interested in local history.

Choosing the Focus of Your Vacation

This gives you a practical way to weigh your options when looking for a holiday apartment. If your stay is focused on the beach, take into account the lack of tourist facilities and the recommendation to travel in a suitable vehicle. If you are interested in being active, the 6 km route through Keramotí is a specific option; if you would like to include culture and history, you can also consider the churches and memorial chapel.
