Creuzburg is a district and the namesake of the town of Amt Creuzburg. The Creuzburg was built between 1165 and 1170. The stone Romanesque Werra Bridge was built in 1223; next to it stands the Liborius Chapel, dating from 1499. These dates span from the 12th-century castle to the chapel at the end of the 15th century, giving each building its own historical context.

The permanent exhibition at the castle museum in the Creuzburg covers the history of the castle, town and judiciary, as well as the history of the Thuringian landgraves. It also focuses on Michael Praetorius (c. 1572–1621), a composer and music theorist. The range of topics therefore encompasses both local history and music history. In Mihla, the town hall museum takes a different approach, covering rural life, the nobility and wars in western Thuringia. The Red Castle, completed in 1581, is a half-timbered castle in the Renaissance style. Creuzburg also has two boat landing stages with rest areas. Check whether these facilities are still in operation before setting out. In Mihla, the Dr. Ernst Wiedemann Bath has solar-heated pools and attracts thousands of bathers in summer. It is therefore a seasonal highlight; check its current opening status before your visit.
