Kannawurf Castle and Its Renaissance Garden
Kannawurf Castle was built in the Renaissance style in 1562/1565 under the direction of Georg II Vitzthum von Eckstädt. The castle’s Renaissance garden was completed in 2020 and is open at all times. This brings a historic building and a garden completed much later together in the same place. The Tour de Frömmschdt: A Cycling Tour on a Set Date
The family-friendly Tour de Frömmschdt starts in the market square in Sömmerda and passes through Leubingen, Griefstedt, Büchel, Etzleben, Gorsleben and Kannawurf to Kindelbrück, continuing on to Frömmstedt. It takes place every year on the third Saturday in August. Some sections of the route follow agricultural tracks, while others use cycle paths alongside roads. Planning therefore involves both the event date and the route: Kannawurf lies along the way, but the outing is tied to the August date. Kindelbrück: Spring, City Gates and Other Attractions
Kindelbrück also offers its own natural and cultural highlights. Gründelsloch, a karst fissure spring and allegedly bottomless pool, lies west of the town. The spring discharges around 15,600 litres of water per minute and is considered Thuringia’s most powerful spring. The almost circular pool is nearly 22 metres across and 9 metres deep. Kindelbrück’s city gates are also among its attractions.
The “Way to the Stone Age” was completed in summer 2022. Near Griefstedt, it branches off from the Unstrut Cycle Route and leads along an extensive wildlife enclosure to Kindelbrück. In addition to the historic city gates and Gründelsloch, Kindelbrück therefore offers a cycle route with its own destination and route.
The SSG Kindelbrück outdoor pool is not open to the public; visitors can use it if they ring the bell and become day members. The club pool has beach facilities, a football pitch, a large sunbathing lawn and slides. If you are planning a swim, check the current access arrangements in advance.
