Saalburg-Ebersdorf is situated in a low mountain landscape with wooded ridges reaching approximately 575 metres, as well as on the 9.2 km² Bleiloch Reservoir.

History and Culture

Saalburg was first mentioned in documentary records in 1222 and was granted town rights in 1313. A fragment of the former keep and larger sections of the town wall have been preserved.

Ebersdorf Castle Park in Saalburg-Ebersdorf is an approximately 50-hectare English landscape garden. It was originally laid out as a Baroque garden from 1710 onwards and redesigned between 1801 and 1807.

The castle park also contains several historic tea houses.

Bleiloch Reservoir is listed as Germany's largest reservoir; its stated dimensions are an area of 920 hectares and a shoreline of 28 kilometres.

The Märchenwald attraction is located just outside Saalburg, near Bleiloch Reservoir, in a wooded area of the Dornbachgrund.
