The church is also one of the town’s historic landmarks and is said to be more than 400 years old. Its finely detailed wood carving depicts Mary and John beneath the cross of Jesus Christ. The Crucifixion group is attributed to the workshop of Würzburg sculptor Tilman Riemenschneider. The subject combines a specific biblical depiction with a qualified attribution to a craftsman’s workshop.

There are around 60 kilometers of hiking trails around Sachsenbrunn. The Rennsteig-Leiter Sachsenbrunn is an open route that runs via Sachsenbrunn, Sophienau and the Werrateich to the Rennsteig Eisfelder Ausspanne. The Otto Ludwig literary memorial is located in the Ludwig family’s summer house, built in 1814. Its collection covers the life and work of the poet and musician, who was born in Eisfeld in 1813. Another historical detail can be found at Eisfeld Town Hall: a coat-of-arms relief carved in sandstone in 1557 is located above the round entrance portal. The school building, erected in 1575 and later extended, is considered the second-oldest school building in Thuringia.
The Eisfeld Kuhschwanzfest also offers a distinct highlight. Its largely preserved program includes an early-morning wake-up call, a historic guard parade with a fire brigade drill, the commander’s ride and a festival procession. Together, the museum, architectural history and festival tradition form a cultural focus clearly distinct from Sachsenbrunn’s attractions.
