History and Classification

Deuna was first documented in 1162, when Mainz Archbishop Konrad I of Wittelsbach donated several properties in Deuna to Gerode Monastery.

Deuna is a district of the municipality of Niederorschel in Eichsfeld, Thuringia.

Deuna has a historic moated castle. After the nearby residence of the von Hagen family was destroyed in 1315, the family moved there. Martin Luther stayed at the castle in 1515.

Paths and Landscape

A hiking route begins at the Dünkreuz in Deuna and climbs moderately to the upper Dün hiking trail. There, a small shelter provides an opportunity to rest.

The Deuna experience trail follows the Dün ridge and offers views of the Deuna quarry and the surrounding countryside.
