The church associated with Kaltenkirchen was first documented in 1301. The village of Kaltenkirchen was first documented in 1316.

The memorial grove was inaugurated in 1923 for the residents of Kaltenkirchen who fell in the First World War; 60 fallen soldiers are named on plaques. In 1953, the memorial grove was expanded to commemorate the victims of the Second World War.
