Culture and History

St. Laurentius was probably built as a fieldstone church between 1170 and 1190. The tower and vestibule were added in 1747. The vestibule contains an old oak collection box with a triple wrought-iron locking system. It formerly served as a safe and savings box for members of the congregation. The once-reserved church pew of Christina Friedebeck is also located there.

In the altar area, there is a baptismal font with a carved lid dating from 1794, while the pulpit dates from 1630. The church's attractions also include the Madonna with Jesus from the 14th century. The former church doors were historically associated with separate functions, including a death door and a women's door. The two pairs of altar lights date from the 15th and 18th centuries.

Nature and Trails

A freely accessible circular hiking trail through Großenwiehe follows the route of cycle path no. 3 and includes the Lindewitt Forest and Großenwiehe Church as attractions.

Geographical Location

State road 12 connects Großenwiehe towards North Frisia and the North Sea; the B 200 provides a connection towards Flensburg. From Großenwiehe, the motorway is approximately 15 minutes away by car.
