St. Catharine was founded as a branch church of Neumünster Monastery; its 13th-century fieldstone nave was given a Gothic brick choir around 1300. The church preserves historic works of art and the tomb of the Danish commander Daniel Rantzau. Guided tours of the church are available by prior arrangement.
