Dörnick lies between Lake Großer Plöner See, the Schwentine and the Karperbeek. Nine-tenths of the village’s area lie within a landscape conservation area.

History and Villagescape

A historic fire station with a hose tower dating from 1927 stands in the village centre. Dörnick was first documented in 1460. Restored cottages and the former village school are part of the village’s character. The village district of Karpe was mentioned as early as 1275.

Getting Around

From Federal Highway 430, the route follows the Schwentine through Dörnick and Karpe to the Sventana windmill in Langenrade, which lies directly beyond the border with Ascheberg.

Numerous designated cycle routes in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park pass through Dörnick. The Five-Lakes Cruise runs from Plön to Malente through the lake landscape of Holstein Switzerland.

Culture

Plön Palace Park features shady avenues that are ideal for strolling. Visitors can take a guided tour of Plön Palace or the Baroque Prinzenhaus. Plön’s historic palace nursery is home to a collection of old trees.

Plön combines water, culture and short distances; sights, nature experiences and Lake Großer Plöner See are all close together. The path to Prinzeninsel runs directly along the water and offers sweeping views across Lake Großer Plöner See.
