Stadum: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
A preserved section of the historic Ox Road is located in the Langenberger Forest. The Rantzauhöhe rises there to 45 metres above sea level and is the highest point in the forest and in the district.
The Stadum church hall stands on the village square and serves as a meeting place for many events. The Stadum village shop has a bakery counter offering takeaway coffee, filled bread rolls and fresh baked goods. A butcher's shop in Ladelund supplies the village shop with fresh meat and salads.
Nature
The Langenberger Forest has a nature trail, a dog exercise area and idyllic fishponds. The municipality promotes horse-riding, hiking and cycling routes through the flat surrounding countryside around Stadum and in the Langenberger Forest, as well as a seasonal heated outdoor swimming pool and a golf facility. The solar-heated outdoor swimming pool is open seasonally from mid-May to the beginning of September.
Culture
The first documented mention of Stadum dates from 1486; church registers mention the place as early as 1359. Archaeological traces date from the Mesolithic to the Iron Age. Two Bronze Age burial mounds are also recorded in Stadum.
Rio Reiser died in 1996 at his farm in Fresenhagen, within the municipality of Stadum. In the 1970s and 1980s, Ton Steine Scherben were based in Fresenhagen in a 250-year-old listed building.
The raising of the maypole on Stadum's village square is accompanied by a small festival. Since the 1990s, the tradition of Biike burning has been celebrated again in Stadum, with a large fire on 21 February. On New Year's Eve, children in colourful costumes go from house to house singing in exchange for sweets.
Getting Around
Stadum is located directly on Federal Highway 199, a main road leading to the North Frisian Islands. An express bus service provides connections from Stadum to railway stations in Flensburg and Niebüll. The on-demand bus supplements public transport on the mainland and reaches smaller places every day, including weekends and public holidays.
