Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Klanxbüll can then continue their search for accommodation. The Wiedingharde Information Centre in Klanxbüll presents an exhibition on the history and present of the region. It also offers bicycle rental and regional handmade products. The Church of Our Lady in Klanxbüll is a fortified, Late Romanesque–Early Gothic vaulted brick church dating from the mid-13th century. It was built in 1240, has a thatched roof, and is a listed historic monument.

Charlottenhof is a thatched four-sided farmstead that was formerly used for agriculture and has been converted into a cultural and events venue. It hosts a seasonal cultural programme including rock concerts, jazz brunches, cabaret, workshops, and markets.

Landscape

Remains of the low dikes built around 1200 to protect connected terp mounds are still visible in the historic landscape of Klanxbüll. The sea dike known as the “Golden Ring” was completed in 1436; the dike-building measures carried out that year enabled more intensive agricultural use of the area. The settlement structure of the Wiedingharde can still be discerned from the old dike lines. Small farms in the Wiedingharde were built from red brick and thatch on individual terp mounds.

Getting Around

Klanxbüll offers guided walks across the mudflats, cycling tours, walks, cultural activities, events, and markets. Klanxbüll railway station was built in 1921 in the style of a farmhouse and has been preserved to this day. Construction of the 26-kilometre Klanxbüll–Westerland railway line began in spring 1923. Today, Klanxbüll railway station offers connections to Deutsche Bahn regional services.

The Wiedingharde Route runs from the reclaimed marshland to the Seebüll terp, Emil Nolde’s last workplace. It follows Lake Gotteskoog and includes nature trails. From Klanxbüll, the Nolde Foundation can be reached by bicycle in about half an hour.
